So you bought a Jeep Wrangler... Here is some history that may interest you!

Jeep, a brand synonymous with rugged off-road vehicles, has a rich history that dates back to the early 1940s. Originally designed for military use, Jeep vehicles have since become iconic symbols of adventure and exploration.

Origins of Jeep

In 1940, the U.S. Army issued a request for a lightweight, four-wheel-drive vehicle that could serve as a reconnaissance car. American Bantam Car Company, Willys-Overland, and Ford Motor Company all submitted designs for the vehicle. The Willys-Overland design, known as the Willys MB, was ultimately chosen and became the first Jeep vehicle.

World War II and Beyond

During World War II, Jeeps were used for a variety of purposes, from transporting troops to serving as ambulances. Their durability and versatility made them invaluable on the battlefield. After the war, surplus Jeeps were sold to the public, leading to the popularization of the Jeep brand. This is where the "Jeep Wave" originated from. As troops would pass each other on the road they would hold up a V shape finger sign, "V for Victory".

Expansion and Innovation

Over the years, Jeep has expanded its lineup to include a range of vehicles, from the iconic Wrangler CJ/YJ/TJ + to the family-friendly Cherokee. The brand has also embraced innovation, introducing  new features like electronic locking differentials, enhancing all-terrain capabilities that have solidified its reputation as a leader in off-road vehicles.

For a light duty trail vehicle, no other vehicle produced holds a candle to the Jeep.

Legacy and Impact

Today, Jeep vehicles are beloved by outdoor enthusiasts, off-road adventurers, and everyday drivers alike. The brand's commitment to its roots, performance, and ruggedness has made it a staple in the automotive industry. With a history rooted in military service and a legacy of exploration, Jeep continues to inspire a sense of freedom and adventure in all who get behind the wheel.
