When it comes to jeeps, overheating can be a common problem that many owners face. In this article, we will explore the causes of overheating in Jeeps, with a focus on how winches and aftermarket angry grills can contribute to this issue.
What causes overheating in jeeps?
Aside from the normal thermostat, fan issues, water pump and low coolant.. There are a couple overlooked factors that can contribute to overheating in Jeeps. One common cause is a lack of proper airflow to the radiator. When the engine is not receiving enough cool air flow, it can quickly overheat. This is where aftermarket angry grills can come into play. While some think these grills may look stylish and aggressive, they can actually badly restrict airflow enough to cause overheating issues.
Another factor that can cause overheating is the addition of a massive winch placed directly in front of the grill. Often Jeep owners install a winch, without a bumper that sinks the winch down below the grill. This further leads to restricted airflow, leading to overheating. When building our 2 door stretched JK with a V8 swap, we choose to utilize a Savvy Offroad front bumper because it nicely sunk the winch down below the radiator line. We also choose to relocate the winch solenoid box to under the hood, which allowed for a nice clean look.
Combined this gave enough airflow to cool a massive cammed V8, with 4 added coolers in front of the radiator!
In our opinion, the angry grill is dead! It is no longer stylish, and it makes your Jeep scream "cheap"! Skip the angry grill and enjoy a nice cool ride.
